My Friends

Mirela is not alone. In Germany, Sweden and Austria, these friends carry the work with her: adoptions, foster homes, donations and castration campaigns.

Germany

Tierschutzgruppe Herzensmenschen e. V.

The association is based in Germany, and its volunteer team has stood at Mirela's side for many years. They take care of adoptions, sponsorships, foster homes, donations, castrations and much more.

Their dogs are placed through foster homes in Germany, where every dog can settle and be met in person, and together with their local partners they care for around 400 dogs and cats. Visit their website, you will be delighted.

Hunderunde

Hunderunde is a social startup founded by Fabio and Luis, two school friends from a village near Bonn. After seeing the plight of street dogs with their own eyes, they decided to build a company that helps: they develop vegan dog snacks and plant-based dog food, and every single product sold donates to street dogs in need.

At Mirela's side almost from their first day: they co-financed the Cheerful Kindergarten, support her every month, and travel to Romania several times a year to see that every donation arrives. They also filmed the documentary you can watch on our homepage. One look at their site is worth it!

200,000+ €donated to animal welfare projects since founding

Sweden

Skayla Dog Rescue

A small, highly capable non-profit from Sweden that has supported Mirela for several years with adoptions and donations. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs from both Sweden and Romania; every dog gets training, care and a carefully matched family.

Their own website puts it beautifully: many street dogs are lucky enough to come to Mirela and Dragoș, where they get the care they need. Please visit their pages!

The happy endings

Adoption stories

This is what all the work is for. Three of the many dogs who made it from Vrancea to a family of their own, told by the friends who carried them there.

Leone, a fluffy dark dog, on a walk in a winter forest in his new home.

Leone

Two years on the cold concrete of a public shelter, until Sina from the Herzensmenschen team found him. Leone waited at Mirela's place until he could travel, and in January he arrived at his family in Germany. For three weeks he hid from the world; then came the snow, and with it his first steps into a new life. Today he greets every morning with joy.

Kiwi, a white fluffy dog, snuggled on a sofa with her toys.

Kiwi

Kiwi travelled from Romania under the name Stormy, to a foster home that turned out not to be her place. The very first family who asked about her was the right one: today she is inseparable from her children, comes along to the office, and fills the house with cheerful nonsense.

Sassy, a small tan dog with a grey muzzle, standing on a frosty wooden deck in the winter sun.

Sassy

Her adopter in Sweden calls her a tough girl in a luxury package. Sassy arrived as a grown, leash-trained dog and needed only a little time to decide her new human was worth trusting. In her adopter's words: I got so much more than I could ever dream of.
